The village of Denicé in Beaujolais

Located in the heart of the Beaujolais villages and a magnificent undulating landscape of golden stones and vines, one of the most beautiful in France, the village of Denicé is home to 1,600 people. It is located in the Rhône département, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

The story begins with the foundation of an abbey in the hamlet of Chevennes in the 9th century. The monks built a chapel dedicated to St Pancras (protector of animals). This chapel, along with the former parish church dating from the 13th-15th centuries, were demolished to rebuild the current church, inaugurated at Easter 1878.

Located in the heart of the Beaujolais region, the commune is home to over 500 hectares of vines, making it one of the largest in the region.

The Nizerand, a tributary of the Saône, is the main river running through the village. Upstream from the village, the river marks the boundary between two Beaujolais wine production zones: Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages.

The commune includes numerous hamlets and localities, such as “les Franchises”.

The Deniçois invite you to come and discover their village, its picturesque hamlets, its listed 12th-century Gothic chapel and its many castles.

The village has a bar, a restaurant, a bakery, a tobacconist’s and a mini-market.
